Happy & Fructose Free

Spreading Hope for Anyone Affected by Fructose Malabsorption

The Long Way – My Version

It is quite easy in this internet age to stumble upon blogs and medical articles… then after hours and/or days of doing research you end up self-diagnosing based off of symptoms.  I am 100% guilty of this so, instead of going to the Gastroenterologist, I…

1.  Decided I had Celiac Disease, and tore apart my kitchen and pantry ridding it of all contaminated oats, breads, cereals, chips, and vegetarian meat items.  Then I did a Celiac blood test… it came back negative.

After weeks of being gluten free I was still getting sick regularly.  So, being puzzled I…

2.  Looked at my diet and decided that I was also lactose intolerant.  I ransacked my kitchen and pantry for a second time in one month, but this time my coffee creamers, ice creams, salad dressings and cheese wedge snacks didn’t make the cut.

Months went by as a Gluten-Free, Lactose-Free Vegetarian.  But after thoroughly enjoying a bowl of cereal one morning with my favorite light vanilla soy milk… loud tummy gurgles strike again.

3.  Naturally I came to the conclusion that I am also soy intolerant.  Third time is the charm when ripping apart your kitchen, right?  So I got rid of my awesome soy milks, cheeses, ice creams, butter, and delicious gluten free pretzels.

Another month went by, and I was fed up with feeling crappy… so I finally broke down and called my Gastroenterologist.

Several weeks later I had my consultation and was referred to a local practice that deals with breath tests for Lactose Intolerance, Fructose Intolerance, and Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth.

The results are back, and my life has been forever changed.
